Overview

Unit Converter

The VClick Tools Unit Converter is an authoritative, browser-native measurement translation utility designed to convert dimensions across international SI metric, British Imperial, and US Customary systems.
Engineered for students, engineers, international merchants, and developers, it delivers deterministic client-side calculations across ten specialized scientific and everyday disciplines without server processing or telemetry.
Functionality

What This Unit Converter Does

Global commerce, scientific research, and daily computing routinely encounter disparate measurement systems. Manually multiplying non-intuitive constants or guessing temperature offsets leads to frequent calculation blunders.
This utility normalizes numbers through standardized canonical base units (e.g. meters for length, kilograms for mass, and joules for energy), providing instantaneous, bidirectional translations across dozens of standardized units.
Conversion Method

How to Convert Units

Linear unit conversion utilizes dimensional analysis. To convert from unit A to unit B, the input value is first multiplied by unit A's ratio relative to a standard base unit, and then divided by unit B's ratio.
For non-linear physical scales such as temperature, specialized mathematical equations that account for zero-point offsets (e.g. (F - 32) × 5/9 = C) are evaluated directly.
FORMULA
Target Value = (Input Value × Source-to-Base Factor) ÷ Target-to-Base Factor
Convert 5 km to miles: (5 × 1,000 m) ÷ 1,609.344 m/mi = 5,000 ÷ 1,609.344 ≈ 3.106856 miles.
Linear Dimensions

Length Conversion

Length represents distance in one dimension. The SI base unit of length is the meter (m), officially defined by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) by fixing the speed of light in vacuum.
Our converter provides exact translations between metric units (millimeters, centimeters, meters, kilometers), US/Imperial units (inches, feet, yards, miles defined by NIST where 1 inch = exactly 25.4 mm), and the international nautical mile (1,852 m).
Surface Area

Area Conversion

Area measures two-dimensional surface space. Because area scales quadratically, dimensional multipliers are squared relative to length (for instance, 1 meter = 100 cm, but 1 square meter = 10,000 square cm).
Supported area units include square millimeters, square centimeters, square meters, hectares (10,000 m²), square kilometers, square inches, square feet, square yards, acres (43,560 sq ft), and square miles (640 acres).
Capacity & Space

Volume Conversion

Volume quantifies three-dimensional space and fluid capacity. Our utility supports standard metric measures (milliliters, liters, cubic centimeters, cubic meters) alongside US Customary liquid capacity units.
To avoid regional ambiguity, US units (US fluid ounce, US cup, US pint, US quart, and US liquid gallon based on 231 cubic inches / 3.78541 liters) are explicitly labeled to prevent confusion with larger British Imperial measures.
Weight & Mass

Mass Conversion

In scientific terms, mass is a fundamental property quantifying the amount of matter in an object, whereas weight is the gravitational force acting upon that mass. In international commerce and everyday usage, mass units serve as standard measures of weight.
The converter supports SI mass standards (milligrams, grams, kilograms, metric tonnes) and standard Avoirdupois customary units (ounces, pounds defined as exactly 0.45359237 kg, and stones equal to 14 lb).
Thermodynamics

Temperature Conversion

Temperature represents the average kinetic energy of particles in a thermodynamic system. Unlike length or mass, temperature scales do not share a common zero point, requiring both multiplicative scaling and additive offsets.
The tool translates between Celsius (°C), Fahrenheit (°F), and the thermodynamic SI base unit Kelvin (K), while strictly enforcing the physical boundary of absolute zero (0 K / -273.15 °C / -459.67 °F).
FORMULA
°F = (°C × 9/5) + 32 | °C = (°F - 32) × 5/9 | K = °C + 273.15
Convert 20 °C to Fahrenheit: (20 × 9/5) + 32 = 36 + 32 = 68 °F.
Duration & Intervals

Time Conversion

The SI base unit of time is the second (s), defined by atomic transitions of the caesium-133 atom. Our converter supports fixed physical time units: milliseconds, seconds, minutes (60 s), hours (3,600 s), days (86,400 s), and weeks (604,800 s).
Variable calendar intervals (such as months and leap years) are excluded from the deterministic physical converter because they do not represent a single, universally fixed duration.
Velocity & Motion

Speed Conversion

Speed measures the rate of distance covered per unit of elapsed time. The primary SI derived unit is meters per second (m/s).
Supported speed units include meters per second, kilometers per hour (km/h), miles per hour (mph), feet per second (ft/s), and the nautical knot (kn, defined internationally as 1 nautical mile per hour or 1.852 km/h).
Force Per Area

Pressure Conversion

Pressure represents perpendicular force applied per unit surface area. The SI unit is the Pascal (1 Pa = 1 N/m²).
Supported pressure standards include Pascals, Kilopascals (kPa), Bar (100,000 Pa), Millibar / Hectopascals (mbar), Standard Atmospheres (atm = 101,325 Pa), Pounds per Square Inch (psi), and Millimeters of Mercury (mmHg / Torr).
Work & Heat

Energy Conversion

Energy quantifies the capacity to perform mechanical work, transfer heat, or power electrical devices. The SI base unit is the Joule (J).
The converter covers Joules, Kilojoules (kJ), scientific thermochemical calories (4.184 J), dietary food Calories / Kilocalories (kcal = 4,184 J), electrical Watt-hours (Wh) and Kilowatt-hours (kWh = 3.6 MJ), and British Thermal Units (BTU ≈ 1,055.06 J).
Data Units

Digital Storage Conversion

Digital storage measures computer data volume based on binary bits and 8-bit bytes. As data capacities grew, two competing prefix standards emerged: decimal SI prefixes (powers of 10) and binary IEC prefixes (powers of 2).
Our converter supports both systems side by side: standard Decimal units (kB = 1,000 B, MB = 1,000,000 B, GB, TB) and official IEC Binary units (KiB = 1,024 B, MiB = 1,048,576 B, GiB, TiB).
Computing Standards

Decimal vs Binary Data Units

Understanding the distinction between decimal (SI) and binary (IEC) data units solves the common puzzle of why a newly purchased 1 Terabyte (TB) hard drive appears as approximately 931 Gibibytes (GiB) in an operating system.
Storage drive manufacturers measure capacity in decimal powers of 1,000 (1 TB = 1,000,000,000,000 bytes). However, operating systems historically reported file capacities using binary divisions of 1,024 (1 TiB = 1,099,511,627,776 bytes). Clearly labeling KiB vs kB eliminates this confusion.
Metric System

SI Prefixes Explained

The International System of Units (SI) employs standardized decimal prefixes to represent uniform orders of magnitude:
• Milli (m): 10⁻³ (one-thousandth) • Centi (c): 10⁻² (one-hundredth) • Kilo (k): 10³ (one thousand) • Mega (M): 10⁶ (one million) • Giga (G): 10⁹ (one billion) • Tera (T): 10¹² (one trillion)
